Pirate's Den Cane Corso

September 2012:

Blackbeard did terrific at the Greensboro AKC show.  On Saturday he won Winner's Dog, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite for his first AKC Major win.

Mondo followed suit three weeks later at the Pinehurst AKC show.  On Friday he won Open Dog, Winner's Dog, Best of Winner's and Best of Opposite.  On Saturday he won Open Dog, Winner's Dog, Best of Winner's and Best of Breed.  He now has both of his Major wins and needs just a few more points to finish his AKC Championship. 

Wish both of them luck in Wilmington, NC in October :)

Beach Day for Pirate's Den! 

A couple of my puppy parents, Matthew and I took the dogs to Carolina Beach today.  It was a blast!  If you're in the area on the weekend, give us a call and you can join in.

  Marco, Raja, Angela and Maximus hanging out.  I've heard Cane Corso aren't crazy about the water.  Don't tell these guys, I don't want them to know. LOL   I don't think they like playing in the sand either. LOL

I titled this" Tow Dogs".  We decided to help this guy out who was having trouble getting off the beach.  Notice my dogs hooked in the back of the truck and in the upper right is Maximus' head (He's so funny) sticking out the window watching, as Angela takes the pic.  I don't think they're afraid of anything. LOL

We wanted to extend a HUGE Thank You to everyone that has been so helpful with the puppies this time around.  As a lot of you already know, we had two large litters born within 48hrs.  Apple decided to jump our fence separating the whelping area from our patio (to come in the house) and was injured causing her to not be able to nurse her puppies.  So many of our friends stepped in, from Nick helping me whelp both litters (poor man didn't sleep for 3 days), Tracey bringing her nursing equipment to ensure we were correctly tubing the puppies, Susan cooking meals, Tim running formula errands, my mom and niece Ashley coming over night after night to help with the late night feedings, to Tony answering the phone so many nights in the wee morning hours as if I didn't wake him, LOL.   I could go on and on.  So many did things without question, dropped everything at the ring of the phone.  We can never thank you enough.  This incident has reminded us of how much more our dogs have given us than we have given them.  Without them, we may have never realized just how wonderful and selfless the people in our life are.

So to all of you, We Love You, Thank You and This Ba Ba's for you!

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED!!!!  Pirate's Dens' " Fhat Money" has received a Pennhip score of 100th percentile at 10mos old and 108lbs!  We are on a roll!  "The Den" is a proud place these days!  Special thanks to Money's family for keeping him nice and lean during his first year, allowing them bones to develop perfectly.  Love ya'll and Money too ; )

Round Two:  Pirate's Dens' "Maximus Fidelus" has scored in the 70th percentile!!!  That's what I'm talking about!  Max and Money are brothers!  Can you say, "Yeah Dawg!" : )  Nana's very proud of Max's family too!

We receive lots of questions and compliments about the names we give our dogs and puppies.  I'm going to start explaining some of them here.  The most requested explanation at this point is how we came up with Effie's name. 

Effie earned her name when she was about 4 weeks old.  We try to give our puppies names that match the special traits of each puppy.  In Effie's case it was because of her behavior. LOL  Effie was the puppy that climbed the 36" whelping box wall at 3wks old.  Every time you opened the den door, there she sat.  I would pick her up, inspect her for injury, put her back.  She would beat me to the door again.  When we put the automatic feeder in the whelping box, the puppies would frantically try to be the first to the food.  Not Effie.  She would climb on TOP of the puppy pile, balancing on their backs, while she flipped the lid on top of the feeder to eat out of the top.  Effie learned to stomp and run on the vinyl floor keyboard to make LOUD music, not just music.  When it was time to put the puppies back in the whelping box, Effie would run and HIDE the instant you headed to the den with the first puppy.  I could go on and on.  The point is, she stayed in trouble. 

I try really hard not to curse.  Every day I would look at Mark and instead of using the ugly word, I would say, "This F...ing puppy is driving me crazy!".  One day it hit me, I know her name.  She will be known as Pirate's Dens' "They call me Effie!".  Effie now terrorizes The Malcolm s'.   She has brought them as much laughter as she brought us.  As a tribute to her personality they kept her name.  I never dreamed there could be another...........Until now.  She's on the available page : ))

This story is true.  It is about one of those days that are so crazy, you couldn't have made it up.  I'll state up front that I'm not a writer, nor an English major.  Please forgive the grammatical errors, but I hope you enjoy my misfortune.

7am: Up early, I'm going to have a cup of coffee and spend some alone time.  Everyone else is still sleep, I might get to read the paper while I have coffee.  Let Mondo out the back door, start coffee, checked Swamp Rats (I love their nickname).  They're really 3 Teacup Chichuhuas.  Cleaned poop out of their playpen. Hooked Blackbeard to his line out front (He loves going out front, he sits on the porch and watches all the squirrels playing).  I'm so glad the hook was within reach of the door. I didn't have to get dressed yet.  Poured coffee, sat down.

7:15:   Is that Mondo howling?  "OMG, I forgot, Angel's in heat!", he's trying to jump the back fence.  Rushed to back door to let him in.  He thunders towards me, still excited from trying to get into the back fence. As ("My Wonder Dog" as we jokingly call him) 

barges in the back door, he steps on my foot (Man that hurts, it's going to leave a huge bruise).  I know he didn't mean to do it, he's just a big boy.  As I go to sit back down, I walk by Swamp Rats playpen, more dog poop. Cleaned playpen again. Wonderful,  "You guys poop as you eat, I think. LOL"
 
7:30am: Sat down to drink coffee again (not so hot anymore).  Isabella's hollering in the den, I guess the rest of the dogs are starting to wake up (The newspaper's not looking so good).  Got up, put her out the back door.  Sat down again.  What is that bumping on the front porch?  Oh Sh**, Blackbeard's eating Fire Ant Killer!  Where in the

he** did he get that?  Run out onto front porch in my night clothes (I'm sure my neighbors didn't want to see that first thing in the morning), shove him into his crate, called poison control.  Recording says hold time is approximately five minutes (no hurry, it's not like he's just ate ant poison).  Finally a human voice, thankfully the lady didn't chastise me for allowing my genuis dog to get into poison.  She said it really wasn't as toxic as you'd think (that's why your number's on the bag, I guess), but considering I wasn't sure how much he ingested I could

induce vomiting.  Stick Mondo in Blackbeard's crate in the living room so he doesn't get into anything, while I  clean up the mess on porch and make Blackbeard (aka Genuis) vomit.  Get Peroxide and leash, go outside (screw the neighbors, they can gawk all they want), pour peroxide in Blackbeard's mouth, walk around for ten minutes (while he's foaming at the mouth like a rabid fox), waiting for him to vomit.  Finally, the deed is done!  WHY would you vomit on my foot?  What a terrific start to my day.
 
8:00: I think the WonderDog Jr. is finished puking.  Take "Stupid" inside for fresh water.  Go out back to find the blower so I can start cleaning the porch.  Walk by Swamp Rats, "What are you, you little shrimps! Poop factories?".  Quick clean up for them.  Spend the next 30 minutes Cleaning the da** Fire Ant bag and contents off the porch. Get the waterhose and water the front yard where I blew the fire ant killer (Can't leave one speck anywhere or we'll be drinking peroxide again).  Why didn't I just get the da** broom and sweep this crap up is beyond me.  Maybe it's because I haven't had coffee yet and I'm thinking like my genuis dog!
 
8:30am:  Everything's clean! Go inside to drink coffee.  What is that smell?  Blackbeard (Moron) has vomited on the Living Room rug, "Oh, you've sh** in here too!".  This is just great, how could you have anything left to vomit?  I thought it was all on my foot.  Why didn't he sh**  the first half hour he was outside?  Oh, I forgot, He was busy eating FIRE ANT KILLER!  I go to put Mondo outside so I can put Blackbeard back in his crate.  DA** DOG!!!!  Mondo has SH** all over Blackbeard's crate. WHAT IS HIS FREAKIN' PROBLEM???  He was outside 45 minutes.  Oh, that's right, he was chasing Angel, I forgot, duh...  I'm tying his sorry a** to the front porch before I drag that huge crate outside.  My house smells like a sewer!  Shove Blackbeard (Moron #2) into laundry room, get Trashbag, paper towels and MinuteMan Carpet Extractor.  Thank God for MinuteMan! For the next 45 minutes I'm on my hands and knees, scrubbing dog vomit and crap out of my Dhurrie Rug.  What can I do to keep this wet wool rug from souring?  I sprinkle cat litter to absorb the moisture.  Find the Lysol, spray the whole house before Mark wakes up and smells the lovely scents of DA** DOGS, while I walk around in a litter box!
 
9:30am:  Forget the coffee, I am writing this down so I will always remember why I love these dumba** dogs so

much. 
 
9:45am:  What is that noise?  I Forgot, Blackbeard is shut up in the Laundry Room, what is he banging in there?  Go check on him.  Da**it, he's puking again!
